♥ Bangs {May Arts & Faber Castell}

Hello Folks!!

Welcome to my part during the insanely inspiring May Arts and Faber Castell swap week! I hope you've been visiting blogs all week! There's a beautimous prize up for grabs... and the Faber Castell goods work like HEAVEN with the vast abundance of May Arts Ribbons available, so I wouldn't want you to miss anything along the way♥

I've been working on a little general self improvement, and recently worked up the balls to cut some side sweeping bangs into my former one length locks.
I. LOVE. THEM.
So I marked the occasion with a 12x12! And what better style to create my layout in than a bit of cream and pink femininity!

The May Arts ribbons used include the Eyelet Lace(447-58-01 White), the Sheer Box Pleat(392-58-01 - WHITE) and the Pink Burlap String(SM-17 Pink.) I also used a Metallic Melon Gelato from FC to both stamp in and splatter across the page and my embellishments. The FC Metallic PITT Pen in Gold makes the perfect little doodles along the edges of the page and photograph as well as handwritten title. Along with the doodles around the edges I added in a few complimentary circles mixed in with the Gelato splashes.

Other products used include  UmWowStudio (Mini Polaroid Chip, Circle Confetti Mask, Daisy Chip, Swallow Chip, Layered Hearts Chip), My Mind's Eye (Buttons and Brads), Viva Las VegaStamps! (Snail, Line of Chevrons, Striped Border Arrow, Open Immediately, Feed Your Soul), Gauche Alchemy (Washi Tape), Glitz (Giant Rhinestone), Prima (Daisy Layers Paper Flower), BasicGrey (Serenade paper), adhesive, gesso, thread, seed beads, eBeads, basic archival ink in black and a paperclip!

Please please PLEASE Make sure to see all the beauty today by visiting fellow Ribbonistas GINI & EMILY as well as the May Arts Blog and the Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Blog!

This Moment {12x12 by Miae}

Today's gorgeous layout is from CT member Miae Rowe:

From Miae : Hello everyone!

Ever since I got my hands on some UWS masks I've been eager to make something with them!  On this page I used the Star Confetti Mask to create my background. I used the mask as a sort of "stamp" by coloring it and pressing it down on paper. In this case I used my Faber Castell Big Brush pens, spritz the mask with water and pressed down.

Of course I also used some confetti shapes (love, love the confetti!) in Hearts and Star shapes to add more movement to the page.

And finally to add dimension to and anchor my photo, I used UWS flair from the Black and Blue set.

BE {Splash of Color & May Arts}

Hi folks!! Each month May Arts and Splash of Color are teaming up to share ways to use their colors on our ribbons!

Up this month is May Arts FLOWERS

--And there's a giveaway : 2 spools/boxes of MA ribbons and a selection of SoC paints!--

As a little inspiration on using Flowers and Radiant rains, I've got a tag to share today!

This is the very first time I've used Radiant rains, and I canNOT believe how beautiful, bold and metallic the colors are!! These are seriously my all time favorite mists. FOR SURE. NO lies! The red splatters all over the tag is Splash of Color Persimmon Radiant Rain.

I also used May Arts 1.5 inch Black Sheer Woven Rosettes and May Arts Sheer Box Pleat. The tag has been cut using Sizzix/Tim Holtz tag die and the bottom punched with a Martha Stewart edge punch. I distressed the tag with Walnut Stain distress ink and water. Then comes the gesso through a mask, more distress ink, the radiant rain, tape, stamping, the thread, the ribbon and some chipboard embellishments.

Tape from Gauche Alchemy, Line of Chevrons and Be Adorable stamps from Viva Las VegaStamps!, Star Confetti chip and Circle Confetti Mask from UmWowStudio. Random supplies: thread, adhesive and gesso.

Look At The Stars {12x12 by Jess}

Today we've got one heck of a stunner from Creative Team member Jess Mutty!!
Most of the time I start a new project and grab a bunch of stuff somewhat randomly with no real plan. But every once in a while a little seed of an idea will plant in my mind and grow, little by little, idea by idea, into a vision.  This page was one of those seeds.

I've had the photo since last Christmas and then DeeDee created that lamp post and I fell in love and just knew.  Then came the amazing tiny star confetti and it had to be done.  So I took a deep breath and plunged in, doubting that the reality would live up to the vision, and it turned out to be one of those magical, in-the-zone layouts that just flows and works.

I painted, pearl-dusted, and distressed the background paper, layered the photo area with cardboard, punchinella, mistable paper, and lace and added the painted lamp post on top. I backed the lamp part with paper and filled the holes in with silver glitter glue.

I also used the smallest chevron lines from the chevron mask in several places and a couple of the flair from the Wild West Flair set.

The title is, of course, drawn from the song Yellow by Coldplay.  And the page would not be complete without a whole bunch of teeny stars.  I love them so much!

Oily Cicada {an Altered Canvas by Riikka}

Today we're welcoming back RIIKKA with this beauty:

Riikka says "When I first saw this cicada bug chipboard, I fell in love. The shape is so captivating! So when I started to think what I should create for my guest post, I immediately thought about the bug and wanted to do a canvas using it. In my mind I saw the bug having black, oil-like surface that would shimmer in the colors of the rainbow on a surface of ephemera.

I painted the cicada bug first with black Plain Jane mist and let it dry. On top of the black coat I then misted bright Glimmer Mist colors knowing that only their colorful shimmer would show in the bug because of the black. I also wanted the shape to have a glossy, slightly crackled surface, but was all out of crackle paint. So I embossed the bug twice with embossing powder and while the second coat was still hot, I pressed my crackle stamp on it creating a subtle crackle effect. The surface looks almost like crocodile skin!

For the background I used various ephemera and leftover alphas together with a few arrow shapes form UmWowStudio. I glued them to a canvas base using regular glue and then spread gesso all over. After the gesso had dried I used Glimmer Mists to color the surface in blues and greens. I also added touches of black and white mist. Lastly I added some splashes of mist and pencil doodling to the background and mounted the cicada using a decorative needle.

I'm so honored to have a chance to guest design for UmWowStudio! Thank you for the opportunity!"

RIIKKA.. thank YOU! This piece is amazing and I'M the honored one -- I get to share your beautiful work using our products! Stay tuned for one more post this month from Riikka in CARD form :). Please leave her some love and let her know how much we appreciate her work!

The Journey Is The Destination {Layout by Amy}

Our post today comes from the uber talented brand new creative team member.. AMY LASSITER!!!

Amy Says: For my first project as an UmWowStudio design team member, I had such an amazing time creating with the Cicada Mask, and some beautiful chipboard. I loved how versatile it was, and how the wings were so delicate. After creating the mixed media background, and layering up my papers, I enjoyed choosing the Floral flourish, Cicada Bug, and Chevron confetti chipboard pieces.

The gorgeous flowers from the Dream a little dream Flair, added a touch of delicate femininity, that works so well with the photo of my sweet 11 year old daughter.

I'm so stoked to have Amy on the UWS Creative Team --- the team is so super versatile and all uber talented, she fits in perfectly! This project is stunning and I seriously cannot get enough of it. I've spent what feels like hours ogling all the details.

Guest Creative Team Member Riikka Kovasin

Our 2nd guest designer this month is Riikka Kovasin:

Hi there! I'm Riikka Kovasin - a Finnish mixed media style scrapbooker and crafter. I'm happiest when I can combine my love to beautiful products to chance to get messy!

I'm married and I have two daughters. My family is a constant source of inspiration and gives topics for my pages. I also love to scrapbook the everyday and the little things. I love to layer and cluster when working on a project!

I'm honored and thrilled to be guest designing for UmWowStudio. I find the chipboard shapes really inspirational and love the dark kraft color of these chippies. Thank you DeeDee for this opportunity!

I'd be happy if you want to visit my blog Paperilitiin (paperiliitin.blogspot.com)! You can also find me from social media like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

I scrapbook about my supportive, understanding, awesome hubby way too seldom! So this time I thought I'd make him the center of attention and let him shine!

I created a sunburst pattern to the background by using masking tape and sticky back canvas and added more texture with modeling paste and stencils. I colored the background using mists and created an ombre effect - the colors are a bit lighter in the middle than around the edges.  In the middle I added layers of paper, his photo and finished the layout with the Um WOW embellishments.

The frame is colored with white Distress Stain. I adhered a little piece of paper coated with double sided tape to the back of the frame. To the heart I added gold glitter and to the text I added black embossing powder. Large Love This Polaroid

Cassandra Chen and her BIRTHDAY BOY {a layout}

Today I'm making up for some lost time and introducing the *cough* August *cough* guest designer! We'll have two fabulous ladies this month -- Stick around to meet Riikka this week -- today please welcome CASSANDRA to the UWS blog!

FB Page - Simply Handmade- https://www.facebook.com/CassandraChenCrafts
Blog: http://www.thescrapperinme.blogspot.sg/
Instagram: cassandrachen

Heyyie! My name is Cassandra Chen and I live in Sunny Singapore! I caught the scrapbooking bug in 2010 and I don’t think I have recovered from it since. Besides drooling over all the paper collections, I love how scrapbooking captures and preserves life's simplest moments! Besides scrapbooking, I love photography, sewing and doing all sorts of crafts!:D

Warmest regards,
Cassandra Chen

And today she has the sweetest little blue layout :

Something has always struck me about layouts that aren't square, and I'm a total fan of Cassandra's work. It's always so super top notch! The paper clustering in the corner is perfect.

And the golden glitter she's doused the UmWowStudio Layered Triangles in is superb! As the title (Layered Triangles) says, I had originally intended for all the layered pieces to layer on top of each other -- but every time someone staggers them like this, my heart flutters. One of the most rewarding things as a designer and owner of your own company and products is watching people use them in ways they weren't intended. Basically just seeing people be creative makes me happy, throw in my own products and I'm a superbly giddy gal! Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your work today Cassandra! It definitely makes me giddy :) -DeeDee
